The park encompasses 4,507m-tall Mt. Karisimbi and 4 other forested volcanoes. In the southwest is Nyungwe National Park, with ancient montane rainforest that's a habitat for chimpanzees and other primates.

Rwanda Culture and History

Rwanda is a country consisting of three major tribes; the Hutu, the Tutsi and the Twa or Batwa however the Tutsi and the Hutu outnumber the Batwa- forest dwellers. All these tribes speak the same local language –Kinyarwanda and share the same cultural heritage. The Batwa community might have a little distinction from the rest Rwandese because they pygmies and originally were forest inhabitants. Today, Kinyarwanda, French and English are Rwanda’s official languages.

The highlands of Rwanda and Burundi, east of Lake Kivu, are the last part of Africa to be reached by Europeans in the colonial expansion of the late 19th century. Before that time local tradition tells of many centuries during which the Tutsi, a tall cattle-rearing people probably from the upper reaches of the Nile, infiltrate the area and win dominance over the Hutu, already in residence and living by agriculture.
